James Richard Clark was born 6 Jan 1889 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His parents were John Clark and Dora Conley Clark (whose maiden name sometimes shows up as Conly, and whose first name sometimes shows up as Ina). James had two younger brothers: John Anthony was born on July 27, 1890, in Cincinnati, Ohio; Leo Francis was born on March 5, 1893, in Cincinnati, Ohio (died March 15,1926).
James married Helen Winifred Herschede 11 Sep 1916 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Their children: Mary Catherine was born and died on April 21, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio (died on April 21, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio); Mary Helen, was born September 9, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio (died February 13, 2005 in Savannah, Georgia); John Francis “Jack” was born May 7, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio (died 2006); James Richard, Jr. was born November 14, 1921 (died December 4, 2002, in Cincinnati, Ohio); William Donald was born 17 Oct 1923 in Cincinnati, Ohio (died 5 Feb 1945 in Luzon, Phillipine Islands, during WWII); Dorothy Mae "Dottie" was born 21 Nov, 1924 (died September 6, 1992, in Cincinnati, Ohio); Thomas Henry was born 8 Nov 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio (died 2011); Nancy Lee was born 28 Jul 1928 (died 1992); Suzanne or Susan C. "Sue" was born about 1931 (died September, 1992).
James is buried in Gate of Heaven cemetery in Montgomery, Ohio in the William Clark mausoleum. William was James' son, killed in WWII.
In 1910, he began law practice in Cincinnati.
James was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives (Democrat) from 1913-1915.
He was the author of Ohio Blue Sky Law and Bipartisan Jury System of Ohio.
He was special assistant attorney United States atty general, 1922-1923.
He was a US Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio from 1920-1922.
He was also Assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, 1916-1920.
He was a Member of the Council City of Cincinnati, 1936-1937.
He was a member of the State Banking Advisory Board, 1937.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from St. Xavier College, Cincinnati, in 1907; A.M., 1909; Bachelor of Laws, Young Men’s Christian Association Night Law School, Cincinnati, 1910.
He was also a member of the American Bar Association; Knights of Columbus; Elks: and the Hyde Park Golf Club.
He put himself through college by playing the violin in a musical ensemble.
He was known as a very charismatic public speaker. As soon as he took the floor, you could hear a pin drop.
When they weren't away at Catholic boarding school, he carried each of his eight children up to bed every night individually, singing each one an original song every night. Each song featured the child's name.
