Sarah was the only child of Rebecca (Cooper) Clark, who died when Sarah was about 2 weeks old. Sarah's father, John, married Mary Strong a year later, on 20 March 1679.

Sarah married Zechariah Field on 25 May 1705. Zechariah was born August 1676 at Hatfield; he was the son of John and Mary (Edwards) Field.
