Biography

Stella Mae was born 7 Jul 1883. [1][2]

1892 In 1892 Stella moved with her family to a farm six miles northwest of Sheffield, Iowa. [3][4]

1900 Stella was living with her parents on their farm in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. She was the oldest of 5 siblings: Stella (16), Alpha (14), Mable (11), Carrie (8), Ralph W (5). The 1900 census also lists two boarders: Hazel Clark, age 10, and John Skinner, age 34, who immigrated from England in 1891.

1903 Willis married Stella Mae Clark, daughter of Ralph Wilber and Mary Belle (Owens) Clark, 19 Aug 1903 in Sheffield, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa. [5][6]A newspaper article describes their relationship: "On Wednesday evening August 19, at the elegant new farm home of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Clark took place the marriage of their eldest daughter Stella Mae and and Willis A. Storer. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C.E. Chapler, of Belmond, a former pastor at McKenzie. The bride and groom have been lovers from childhood and their marriage emphasizes friendship of two of McKinzie's most excellent families. Mrs. Storer is a graduate of the Sheffield high school and a very fine musician as is also her husband. The numerous and elegant presents and hearty congratulations showed the esteem in which the young people are held Mr. and Mrs. Storer will live on the Storer farm as Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Storer will move to Mason City in the near future.[7]

1925 Miss Gretchen Merz lived with the family, employed as their maid. [8]

1940 Stella's mother-in-law, Ettie (Cannon) Storer, aged 83, lived with Willis and Stella. Their daughter, Charlotte, aged 19, lived at home and worked as a waitress. Granddaughter Mary (aged 13) also lived with them.[9]

1966 Stella passed away 9 Jul 1966 and is buried in Elmwood Saint Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. [10][11]

Of Special Interest Stella built a dollhouse which was later donated to the Meredith Wilson museum in Mason City, Iowa. Meredith Wilson, the creator of the movie, "Music Man," was one of Willis A. Storer's students. [See photo in image library] [12]
