Samuel Clark was born at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts) on 19 May 1792, the son of Cutting Clark and Lucy (Carver) Clark. His birth record has what appears to be a middle name, apparently inserted later; it looks like "Phipps" or possibly "Philip."[1]
