Biography

John was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, about 1639, based on depositions he gave during his lifetime. [1]

He was the son of Sergeant Thomas Clark, tanner, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, and Thomas' wife Sarah, last name unknown.

Ipswich 9 October 1672 Mary Bumham, daughter of Thomas Burnham (on 26 March 1684, Thomas Burnham Sr, and Mary Burnham his wiie testified regarding the promises made by Thomas Clarke Sr. to his son John Clarke at the time the latter was about to marry their daughter [Warner-Harrington 124, citing Salem Court record]).[1]

John purchased land at Preston, Conn. 16 April 1694. One record calls him Sgt. He m. (2) a widow, Mary (Leffingwell).(Is this Leffingwell-16?)
