According to Upshur Family of Virginia,[5] and to Stratton Nottingham,[6] Mary Clarke Hammond married Richard Jacob in about 1653. Two wills give their children as:[7][4]

Husband Richard Jacob died before 2 mar 1662/3, when his will was proven.[4] The administration of this will mentions Edward Hammond, son of Mary Jacob wife of Richard Jacob.
Mary Clarke Hammond Jacob married Arthur Upshur after mar 1662/3.[5]
Richard Jacob made a will on 13 January 1662/63 at Nassawadox, Northampton County, Virginia:
My body to be buried in my new orchard by my child Abram's grave.
To my beloved wife Mary Jacob my now dwelling plantation for life, but
my eldest son Philip Jacob to live thereon in the house called the "Stable." To my son Philip (after my wife's death) all my said dwelling plantation being 550 A. contained in 2 pattents.
To my son Thomas Jacob 350 A. at Pungoteague on the western part of a main branch of said Creek whereon Richard Bundick presently lives.
To my son Isaac Jacob 500 A. at Pungoteague on the eastern part of the aforementioned branch and extending to the land of Nicholas Waddilow.
To my son William Jacob 300 A. adjoining my now dwelling plantation bounded northerly by a branch of Nuswattocks Creek called "Charrities Branch," but if William dies without issue then
to my son Richard.
To my son-in-law Edward Hammon 250 A. on Nuswattox Creek betwixt Charities Branch and the land of John Toulson now in the possession of John Dolby.
To my beloved wife Mary 3 mares.
To my son Philip the bed bought of Mr. John Nuthall.
All my remaining estate to be div. by my wife and my five youngest children, viz., Priscilla, Sarah, Mary, William and Richard Jacob.
Wife extrx. My friends (Capt.) William Jones and Mr. Thomas Teackle to oversee.
