William Thomas Clarke was born on 5 September 1842 in Bedfordshire, England, the son of Selina Clarke and William Clarke.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6]}

He was christened on 13 April 1843 in Blunham, Bedfordshire.^[1]

He was married to Emma.^[3] Their children were:

• William Hale Clarke (1865–?)
• John Clarke (1869?–?)

Emma must have died sometime between the 1881 England Census and July 1887, because William remarried on 21 July 1887 in Moggerhanger, Bedfordshire, to Clara Josephine Spring.^[2]
