This Biography is from "THIS OLD MONMOUTH OF OURS."1.

WALTER CLARKE, of Rhode Island, Monmouth Patentee, 1640-1714, was a son of Governor Jeremy Clarke. He was very active in forwarding the settlement of Monmouth, and did all in his power to make the enterprise a success. He did not himself come here, nor did any of his family, so far as the writer knows.

Walter Clarke was born in Newport, an early Quaker settler. Clarke served as deputy to the Rhode Island General Assembly and served as Deputy Governor and Governor many times between 1676 and his death in 1714.

Clark-3659 and Clarke-179 appear to represent the same person because: same name (different spellings), same wife,

Clark-20979 and Clarke-179 appear to represent the same person because: 2 sources have been added to Clark-20979 which use the Clarke name and 1640 birthdate. Most the other information on these two match - their parents, siblings. It would be nice to be able to have them represented as one entity. Thank you so much.

Clarke-4448 and Clarke-179 appear to represent the same person because: I see no reason why these two Walter Clarke's cannot be merged. They appear to be the very same person. Same infor. Use Clarke-179 as finished profile. Thx
