Biography

Note

I started researching my family history in 1999 with birth, marriage and death certificates, which my Mother had for her parents and grandparents where they were available. When I started out I either didn't enter sources or only entered the basic source title into my family history software.

As I became more knowledgeable about the importance of sourcing and not making assumptions I added full source details to all my new information but I have not returned to the earliest entries and updated those. I discovered how much was lacking when I started entering my maternal grandfather's details here at Wikitree.

I have since dug out all the documents and information I have on him and and his immediate family and look forward to going back to the beginning, which will have two benefits. Firstly it will strengthen that area of my family history. Secondly, as my maternal grandfather was Swiss some of the information I have is written in German, which I don't speak and will mean I will have to get my sister involved as a translator. The latter is something we have been wanting to do for years but haven't got around too, partly because of time limits but also because we didn't have a simple medium that we could use to collaborate through. I feel that Wikitree will be the answer.

Anna, do you happen to speak any other languages? Would you check out our languages template and add it to your biography? For example you might add

{{ Languages | en | ro-2 | he-1 }}

to the top of your biography if you speak English natively, intermediate Rumanian and basic Hebrew, or you could use de-4 to specify near-native German or ru-2 for intermediate Russian, and so forth up to ten languages.

It really helps to know who speaks all the different languages used on WikiTree! If there is a language you speak that is missing from our categories, I would be happy to add it. If you only speak English, you're very welcome to use this text to make that clear:

{{ Languages | en }}

Thanks,

Karen

Hi Anna,

I’m Susie the new leader of the England Project. We are contacting all existing members of the project to find out how you are currently involved, and how you would like to be involved moving forward. Please have a look at the England Project page for more information, and then contact either myself or Gillian to let us know what you’d like to do, or if you have any questions. We can then list your interests, help you join the team in the Google group forum for England, and give you any help you might need to get going. If we don’t hear back from you we’ll assume you no longer want to be a part of the England Project at this time.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

Susie :-)

Anna, In honor of Family History month, I am contacting project members to let them know about the Source -A-Thon being held at WikiTree on 1-3 October 2016. It's a hallmark event and we have already signed up 318 members. Some of us have decided to work with selected profiles of their own interests; others want to belong to project teams. Would you like to help out to support a cause so dear to my heart ?

The benefits ? You can win prizes, but the best part is that we all work together here and try to provide sources on those unsourced profiles.

Hope you join us. Visit G2G to get your source-a-thon number & badge.

Every little bit helps. Thanks so much.
