  • To my two daughters Anne Gower and Elizabeth Jacobus my wearing apparel to be equally divided between them.
  • To Stanley Gower the son of Francis and Anne Gowerone cow with all her increase forever to be delivered to the said Stanley the next Spring shall be Twelve month after my decease.
  • To Elizabeth Jacobus daughter of Angell Jacobusand Elizabeth that feather bed I generally used to lye upon with the bolster Rugg and two feather pillows. Also to the said daughter of Angell Jacobus one cow with all her increase for ever to be delivered the next Spring shall be twelve month after my decease.
  • To son John Clarke all my other estate (except what is above specified) as household stuff and all other Hereditamt and all other personall Estate as slaves cattle hoggs and a horse called Button And everything else I do possess with whether debts or otherways only what I above give to my daughters and their children excepted.
  • It is my will that my son John remove nothing from the Plantation I now live on till he comes to the age of one and twenty.
  • I also give to my son John a Certain Tract of Land that belongeth to me of seven hundred ninety and two and one halfe (792.5) acres that lyeth up-wards upon Rappeh River and nigh unto one William Sargent to him my said son and his heirs forever but if my said son should die without issue then the said tract of land to be divided between the heirs of the bodies of my two daughters Anne Gower and Elizabeth Jacobus.
  • Appoints her son John Clarke her sole Executor.
  • To Francis Gower son of Francis and Anne Gower one cow to be delivered the next Spring Come twelve month after my decease the weh Cow I give with its increase for Ever. This Cow is to be excepted from those Cattle I give my son John as well as the other two I gave my Grandchildren Stanley Gower and Elizabeth Jacobus.
  • I desire my trusty and welbeloved ffriend Coil John Stone of Rapp8c County to guide and direct and counsel my son John Clarke till he Comes to ye age of one and twenty.

Wit. ISAAC WRIGHT, EDMUND NORTHER, aged 30 years or thereabouts, THOMAS X HART, WILLIAM WARD, aged 28 years or thereabouts.

  • To son John my bay mare with what increase she shall have after my decease.
  • To son-in-law Francis Gore {sic Gower} one man servant which shall then have his full time to serve in this country to be bought with part of my estate by my Executrix and delivered to him.
  • To daughter Elizabeth wife of Angell Jacobus and the heirs of her body lawfully to be begotten 200 acres of land next adjoining to the land of Mr William Fauntleroy at the South West part of that devident of Land where I now live and for want of such issue to my son John and his heires and all my other Lands and hereditaments whatsoever provided that Joane my wife shall enjoy the housing and plantation I now dwell on during her natural life.
  • All the rest of my Estate not before bequeathed I give to my said loving wife Joane whom I make Executrix of this my will.

[3] KNOW ALL MEN by these prsents that we WILLIAM SARGANT & JOAN CLARK both of ye County of Rappahannock in the Dominion of Virginia both with consent made a division of a tract of land to us grained joyntly by Patton dated the 28th day of September 1678 for One thousand five hundred Eighty & three acres being in County and Dominion aforesd, of which said acres we ye said parties have divided by a line of marked trees run & layed out by Mr, EDWIN CONWAY ye 26th day of Aprill 1682, ye sd lyne beginning at a marked Spanish Oake by a CART PATH that leads from JOHN BOWINs to JAMES TRENTs the said Oake ye beginning a corner of the said Patten t for One thousand Five hundred Eighty & three acres of land wch said dividing lyne runs No. Ea to a chesnut tree standing by RAPPAE CREEK maine Swamp dividing ye track of land into two equal' parts and that part being on ye Southward & Eastward side of said dividing brae I ye said SARGANT did by & with ye consent of said CLARKE make choyce of confirming ye other part yt: lyes on ye Northwards & Westward of sd dividing lyne unto ye said JOANE CLARK her heires and assignes forever; And that part that lyes on ye Northward & Westward side of ye said Dividing lyne I ye said JOANE CLARKE did make choice of confirming ye other part unto ye sd WM. [4] KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I ANGELL JACOBUS of North Farnham Parish in the County of Rappa:, Cooper, and ELIZABETH my Wife, coheire with ANN the late Wife of FRANCIS GOWRE of the sd Parish and County deced, of all and singular the lands of HENRY CLERKE of the Parish and County aforesd. deced for and in consideration of Two thousand Five hundred pounds of good sound merchantable Tobb: and caske to us in hand paid or secured to be paid by this present Charter confirmed unto the sd ROBERT WOOD One hundred and Ten acres of land with the appertinances thereunto belonging being in Sittenburne Parish in the sd County of Rappa: on the North side thereof bounding and adjoyning in part upon the lands of ELIAS WILSON and JOHN FENNER which sd One hundred and Ten acres of land is part of a tract of Four hundred acres of land which were and did belong unto the sd HENRY CLARKE deced, Father to me the aforesd. [5] THIS INDENTURE made the 13th day of April in the year of our Lord 1688 and in the 4th yeare of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord James the Second by the grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, King Defendr. of the Faith &c. Between ANGELL JACOBUS and ELIZABETH his Wife and FRAN: GOWRE of the one parte and HENRY LEWIS of the other part all of Rappa: County and Parish of North Farnham Witnesseth that said ANGELL JACOBUS and ELIZABETH his Wife and FRAN: GOWRE for two thousand pounds Tobb: and Caske in hand paid the Receipt whereof said ANGELL JACOBUS, ELIZABETH his Wife and sd FRAN: GOWRE do hereby acknowledge to have reced full satisfaction have bargained sold and confirmed unto sd HENRY LEWIS his heirs all that Tract or parcell of land situate lying and being in the lower side of RAPPA: CREEKE formerly sold by GEO: BRUCE to Mr. HENRY CLARKE, Father in Law to us the said ANGELL JACOBUS and FRANS. GOWRE, and bounding upon the Plantation of JNO. ESSEX, Colnll WALKER, Majr. PRICE and Collnll WM. LOYDE being ninty and six acres of land next and adjoining to the foure fore rented tracts of land as may appeare by a Survey and Plat of the sd Ninty and six acres of land Surveyed pr. Mr. WM. MOSELEY the then Surveyor of the said County of Rappa: Togeather with all ways waters and all other the appurtinances unto sd HENRY LEWIS his heirs yeilding and paying the Rents and Services therefore first and of right accustomed Further the said ANGELL JACOBUS, ELIZABETH his Wife and FRAN: GOWRE hath covenanteth and promiseth to and with sd HENRY LEWIS his heirs and every of them shall and may lawfully and peaceably have possess and enjoy the aforesd. premises with their and every of their appertinances without any lawful' vexation suit incumbrance disturbance impediment or let of them the said ANGELL JACOBUS, ELIZABETH his Wife and FRAN: GOWRE or either of them their heirs or any other person whatsoever shall and will from time to time and at all times warrant save defend forever the sd HENRY LEWIS his heirs In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and Seals the day and year above written Sealed and Delivered in presence of us GEO: SALE ANGELL JACOBUS THO: WARD ELIZABETH JACOBUS FRAN: GAWRE Acknowledged in Rappa; Court by ANGELL JACOBUS and FRAN: GAURE the Third day of Janry. 1688 and recorded the 13th said month. County and Parish, to be my lawfull Attorney and in my name and in my stead to acknowledge parcell of land HEN: LEWIS of the aforesd. [6] THIS DEED Indented made the Thirtieth day of April in the yeare of our Lord according to the computation of the Church of England One thousand Six hundred ninety & two Between ANGELL JACOBUS of the Parish of North Farnham in the County of RAPPAHANNOCK, Cooper, and ELIZABETH his Wife of the one part and WILLIAM YEATES of the same Parish and County of the other part Witnesseth that the said ANGELL JACOBUS and ELIZABETH his Wife in consideration of the sum of Three thousand seven hundred and twenty pounds of every way good sweet seated Merchantable tobacco to them in hand well paid sell and confirm unto the said WILLIAM YEATES his heirs & assigns all that their parcell of land being in the Parish and County aforesd, containing One hundred acres bounded as followeth, Beginning at a white Oak corner tree to DANIEL JACKSON & extending thence East to a small red Oak and a Spanish Oak near MONOCON, thence crossing the same North West between a white Oak & two red Oaks in the line of JACKSON, thence along his said line No. East to a Hickory corner tree to JACKSON, thence along another line of JACKSONs South West to the first station: which said land descended to her ye sd ELIZA: by the death of one JOHN CLARKE, Brother to her the said ELIZABETH; To have and to hold the said One hundred acres of land with all the apperteraneces unto the sd WILLIAM YEATES his heirs and assignes forever without the let, of them the said ANGELL JACOBUS and ELIZABETH his Wife. [7] THIS INDENTURE made the seven & twentieth day of February in the eight year of the Reigne of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the grace of God Queen of Great Brittain France and Ireland, Defender of the faith &c., annoq. Dom. 1709, Betweene THOMAS GILL of County of NORTHUMBERLAND inthe Colony of Virginia, Planter, of one part and BARTHOLOMEW DAWSEY of the Pish. of FARNHAM in County of Richmond, Planter, of other part; Witnesseth that THOMAS GILL for the sum of Five Shillings Sterling to him in hand paid by BARTHOLOMEW DAWSEY by these presents doth bargain and sell unto BARTHOLOMEW DAWSEY and assigns all that tract of land lying in the Pish, of FARNHAM and County of Richmond containing by estimation one hundred acres bounded, Beginning at the line of the HICCORY THICKETT and running a long the said line North six degrees East one hundred sixty five poles between a red Oak and a Spanish Oak near MONOCON, thence cross the same North eighty four degrees West eighty two poles between two red Oak saplins, thence South six degrees West one hundred eighty six poles between a white Oak and two red Oakes in the line of NICHOLAS CHRISTOPHER, thence along his line North seventy eight degrees East ninety one poles to the aforesaid line of the HICCORY THICKETT, which said land was by Deed duly executed & conveyed by ANGELL JACOBUS late of this County deceased & ELIZABETH his Wife unto WILLIAM YEATS of the same County his heirs and by WILLIAM YEATS conveyed unto said THOMAS GILL and his heirs; Together with all houses gardens orchards woods profitts and appurtenances whatsoever belonging; To have and to hold said tract of land unto BARTHOLOMEW DAWSEY and assignes dureing the full tearm of one whole year paying unto THOMAS GILL his heirs the rent of one pepper Come at the feast of St. Michaell the Archangell if demanded to the intent that by vertue of these presents and of the statute for transferring uses into possession BARTHOLOMEW DAWSEY may be in the actuall possession of the premises and thereby be better enabled to accept a grant of the Release thereof In Witness whereof the parties first above named to the present Indentures have interchangeably sett their hart dc & seals the day year above written Sealed & delivered in the presence of GABRIELL ALLOWAY, THO: GILL SAMLL, GODWIN At a Court held for Richmond County Aprill the Fifth 1710 This day came into Court THOMAS GILL presented & acknowledged this his Deed unto BARTHOLOMEW DAWSEY and it was admitted to record; Mr. SAMUELL GODWIN appeared in Court and by vertue of a Letter of Attorney from MARGRETT GILL, the Wife of said THOMAS GILL, to him in that behalf made & relinquished her the said MARGRETTs right of Dower in the lands conveyed in this Deed unto the said DAWSEY, which is also admitted to record Test M.
