Biography

• Earlier reference had suggested that his first name may have been Nathan.
• Sometimes the family name is spelled as Clark.
• Findagrave entry stated that he married Elizabeth White, daughter of Phillip (sic) White, and that their children included: Lucy Mills Clarke (died 1843, Illinois) and Ellen Clarke.
• Although a reference in "Americans of Gentle Birth" states that Ellen Clarke married William Robertson in 1829. Ellen was mentioned in the Will of Joseph Mills White, and also described as Ellen or Mary in the Will of Philip White. There was a William (age 45) and Mary (age) Robertson living with 3 other Robertsons, i.e. John (male 21), Elizabeth (female 13), and William (male 7) in Anderson Co., KY in 1850. They were all born in Kentucky. However, additional research would be needed to verify that this is Ellen Clarke.
• According to Findagrave, Matthew Clarke and Jane Clarke White, wife of John Barrett White were siblings. Their parents were Matthew Newton Clarke (1754-1831) and Ellen Stubblefield Brown Clarke (1765-1855).
