He was mentioned as "late nephew" in the Will of his aunt, Susanna Clarke Swan "To joint exors Robert Swan of Lincoln Close, gentleman and Henry Machin, of Gateford Hill, parish of Worksop, esquire, 19 guineas on trust to pay same equally between Mary Bland Clarke and Richard Clarke, children of late nephew Gervase Maples Clarke in such proportions and times as exors think proper."
