William was born 20 November 1850 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edmund Claxton and Elizabeth Lex Rehn Claxton. He was baptized 15 June 1852 at West Whiteland, Philadelphia.
He married Emily Marie Louise LaFarge in Newport, Rhode Island 1890. She was the daughter of painter John LaFarge and his wife Margaret Perry. Wedding announcement:[1]
William Rehn Claxton, of this city, was married on Wednesday to Miss Marie- Louise Lafarge, of New York, at Newport, R. I. The ceremony was performed in St. Mary's Catholic Church by Rev. William L Simmons, of Providence. The bride wore a handsome white silk en traine, trimmed with orange blossoms, old point lace and silver. The of honor was attired in a canary silk gown and carried a bouquet of of the valley. Mr. Henry Thouron, of Philadelphia, was the best man and Miss Margaret Lafarge, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The ushers were Mr. W. Wharton Smith, of Philadelphia; F. Collins, of New York, and Mr. G. Grant Lafarge, of New York, and Mr. J. Bancel Lafarge, of this city, brothers of the bride. After a wedding tour Mr. and Mrs. Claxton will reside in Philadelphia.
Burial: Saint Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia.
FindAGrave seems to have accurate data for Mr. Claxton, but the headstone clearly shows his birth year as 1852. Other sources have conflicting information for birth year.
