Biography

John Claxton, Jr never married or left any children . His heirs were his two sisters Deborah (under age) and Margaret wife of Thomas Hall.

I believe John Claxton (Clarkson. Clocston, etc ) was born in York Co as his father was a resident before and after his birth

It is ordered that Mr. Nathaniel Bacon, Administrator of Mrs. Jane Harman, dec'd, be paid 300 lbs tobacco due by bill, out of the estate of John Claxon, dec'd.

It appearing by four depositions that several cattle marked with mark of John Claxon, dec'd, belonged to John Claxon his son, which were five head when John Harryman, one of the evidences, lived there. It is ordered that he enjoy the increase from the time of his father's decease forever.

I, Edward Moulson of Parish of York, testify that about 16 years ago, John Claxon gave to John Claxon, Jr., one plantation lying on south side of York River, which was for 1 cow, 1 heifer, 1 calfe, with their increase, for use of John Claxon, Jr. (abt 1643) Dated 1 June 1659; Edward Moulson I, Edward Palmer, certify same as above. 28 June 1659 Edw'd (m ) Palmer Sworn by James Goodwin

I, Joane Wardley, testify that 16 years ago, John Claxon gave John Claxon, Jr. a plantation for 1 cow, 1 heifer, 1 calf, and there were seven head of cattle when she left the cowpens, 11 or 12 years since. June 1659 Joane ( ) Wardley

I, Edward Dobson, testify that when I lived with John Claxon, it being 5 years past, he told me that his son John Claxon had 3 female cattle, marked with said Claxon's mark, but however the said John Claxon, Sr. told me did belong to his son, that at that time he knew of three cows that remained of that flock which was given him. A parcel of land was given by John Claxon and sold for cattle. July 1659 Edward (X) Dobson (abt 1654)

July 11, 1659 I, John Harryman, age 32, says when he went to hire with John Claxon, dec'd, 3 years since, he told him that 1 cow called "Browning" and 1 heifer belonged to his son John, of which there are increase, which makes 5 head in all. Recorded 24 Aug. 1659 John (X) Harryman

York County, Virginia 16 Sep 1660 Cattle of John Claxon Sr's orphan, lists " my sister Deborah's that my brother John gave her" - signed Thomas Hall.

11 Sept, 1660 Ordered that Thomas Hall pay Thomas Ballard 440 lbs tob. of estate of John Claxon, Jr., dec'd . Ordered that Thomas Hall pay Thomas Ballard 393 lbs tob. due him for fees.

At a Court Held for York County, 25 August 1662 Whereas Maj. Thomas Beale produced to the court an order of York Court dated 24 July 1648 and award thereupon made by Mr. Richard Lee and Mr. John Chew for division of 500 acres of land between said Beale and John Claxon, being two patents, one for 100 and other for 400 acres; the 100 being divided by said award, but the 400 never divided. It is ordered upon Beale's petition with consent of Thomas Hall, who is now seated on Claxon s part, that the 400 acres be surveyed in equal parts., and that Beale and the proprietor of Claxon's part enjoy same. Survey to be made by Capt. John Underhill and an able jury.
