Military Service: United States Army Officer a graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in in June 1831. He resigned his commission a few months later in November of that year.
He was a lawyer in Kentucky, and served in the Kentucky State Legislature from 1835 to 1837.
He was commissioned as Lieutenant Colonel of the 2nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry regiment, and was killed in action at the head of his troops by Mexican lancers at the February 1847 Battle of Buena Vista during the outbreak of the Mexican War.
