Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Mary Clay was a Virginia colonist.

Mary was born about 1664 in Henrico County, Virginia. She is the daughter of Charles Clay and Hannah Wilson.[1] Evidence is needed for her death date and place. It is unknown at this time if she married or had children.

Charles Clay died before 1 June 1686 in Henrico County, Virginia. Administration of his estate was granted to his widow, Hannah Clay, on that date. If he left a will, we don't have it. Abstracts from the inventory of his estate presented by the widow provide evidence for daughters Mary Clay and Elizabeth Clay. They were still unmarried in June 1686.

  • Cows, etc. belonging to Mary Clay, one of the orphans, which were given to her by her God-father [grandfather?]
  • Cows, et. belonging to Elizabeth Clay, one of the orphans, which were given to her by her grandfather.
  • Horses, etc. which were set apart by Charles Clay for the children in lieu of two mares with increase, given them by their grandfather, John Wilson, deceased.[2] [3]

Hi George, the birthdate of 1664 and death date of 1851 is impossible. Perhaps this profile is confused with another ?
