Biography

Arminta Ann Claypool was born on August 26, 1865 in Braxton County, West Virginia, USA. She was the illegitimate daughter of Clarinda Elizabeth Claypool. It is unknown who her father was. This was during the time of the end of the American Civil War.

Arminta was commonly known as "Mintie".

Arminta's mother married Redmond Barrett on Sept. 27, 1869 in Lewis County, WV. Redmond was an Irish immigrant, who came to America in 1860, according to Census records. He was probably the only person Arminta ever knew as a father.

Clarinda and Redmond Barrett were known to have 4 children together. They were: Thomas Stewart Barrett (born1870), Mary Catherine Barrett (born 1873), Isaac Barrett (born 1875), and Iza Etta Barrett (born 1876). All were born in Braxton County, WV. They were Arminta's half-siblings.

Arminta Ann Claypool married a widower named Simon Love on Feb. 24, 1893 in Braxton County, WV. He was 47 years old and she was 27 at the time of their marriage.

Simon Love was born on August 23, 1850 in Upshur County, Virginia (later to become West Virginia). He was the son of John Edward Love and Mahala Rohrbough Love.

Simon's first wife was Tamasine Norman Love, who died on Feb. 7, 1891. Simon had 4 children from his first marriage. They were Theodocia Vada Love, Romeo Lester Love, ida May Love, and Moletus Love. They were all grown by the time of Arminta's and Simon's marriage.

Arminta and Simon had one child, a daughter named Ethel Love. She was born on May 6, 1896 in Burnsville, Braxton County, WV.

According to the 1900 US Census, Simon was living in the West Virginia Hospital for the Insane in Weston, Lewis County, WV. In the 1900 Census, Arminta Love (age35) and head of household, lived in Salt Lick, Braxton County, WV. She lived with her 5 year old daughter, Ethel Love. Arminta is listed as being a widow, yet being married for 7 years, and having had one child (still living). She is listed as a farmer and owning her farm free of mortgage. She is listed as being able to read and write.

Simon Love died on May 17, 1901 in Braxton County, WV. His death certificate states that he was married and a farmer. Cause of death looks to be Paryalysis (somewhat illegible, handwritten record). He was buried in the Big Run Cemetery in Braxton County, WV.

Arminta's step-father, Redmond Barrett died on March 30, 1902 in Braxton County, WV.

Arminta Love married Payton L. Goff on July 2, 1904 in Braxotn County, WV. This was the second marriage for both of them.

Payton's first wife, Dora S. Morrison had died on Dec. 25, 1902. The couple were known to have 3 children from this marriage. They were: Nettie M. Goff (born 1891), Corda Olive Goff (born 1894), and Alma Elizabeth Goff (born 1896).

Payton Goff died of heart failure o April 5, 1909 in Braxton County, WV. He was buried in the Big Run Cemetery in Braxton County.

Arminta Goff married Bushrod Milton Hutchinson on Oct. 16, 1910 near Falls Mill, Braxton County, WV.

Bushrod was born Dec. 26, 1855 in Pleasant Valley, Loudon County, Virginia. He was the son of William P. Hutchinson and Susan Frances Palmer Hutchinson. He was a widower. His first wife, Elizabeth Holbrook Hutchinson, had died Feb. 22, 1902. The couple had 3 children from this marriage. They were: Walter Wintfrey Hutchinson (born 1892), Mary L. Hutchinson (born 1896), and Raymond Thomas Hutchinson (born 1900).

According to the WWI Draft Registration of Bushrod's son, Raymond, Bushrod (and presumably Arminta) lived in Gauley Mills, Webster County, WV on Sept. 12, 1918. Bushrod was listed as Raymond's nearest relative on the card. Raymond lived in Morgantown, Monongalia County, WV at this time.

Bushrod Hutchinson died on May 25, 1928 in Burnsville, Braxotn County, WV. Cause of death was listed as Paralysis and High Blood Pressure. He was buried in Burnsville, Braxton County on May 26, 1928.

Claypole-52 and Claypool-418 appear to represent the same person because: I have not entered all information on Arminta that I have. I am working on it. But the info. for Claypool-52 does match information that I have.
