Biography

Funeral service for Mr. Hershel Clayton, 81, of Hokes Bluff will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday December 20, 2020 at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Chapel with Reverend Jerry Mims, Reverend Jeff Thompson and Reverend Ricky Cornelius officiating the service. Also taking a part in the service will be Leslie Hollowell, Burial will follow the service in Rainbow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home. Mr. Clayton passed away on Tuesday December 15, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Edna Clayton; sister: Joyce Harper; brothers: Bobby, Charles, and Jerry Clayton; best friend: Randy Clanton. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Jane Sims Clayton; daughters: Kathy (Eugene) Oliver, Donna (Newman) Veal, Melanie (Jeff) Thompson; Chosen daughters: Duyen Stokes, Bernie Horton, and Leslie Hollowell; chosen sons: Ronnie Hyde and Greg Gibbs; grandchildren: Lauren and Lyndsay Beal, Clayton Brock and Brooke Thompson, Jeffery, Kristin, and Shelby Thompson, Haley (Zac) Taylor, and Zac and Katie Hyde; sisters: Nancy (Verbon) Harper, and Jane (Peppy) Ruiz; brother: Bruce (Linda) Clayton and beloved baby girl Porshia; lifelong family friends; Roger (Brenda) Downs, and Brenda Clanton. Mr. Clayton was a member of Bethel United Baptist Church. He was retired from Gadsden Fire Department and was owner of Wholesale Used Cars for over 50 years. Well known around town, ‘Mr. Hershel’ and Porshia could be found having breakfast at Poyeyes and visiting his “car buddies”. He was a faithful servant who was always there, always smiling, and always loving. Pallbearers will be George Beal, Kevin Edge, Steven Thompson, David Stokes, Chris Horton, Big Wayne, Roger Downs, Allen Ragan, and Scott Stansell.
