Research Notes
It is entirely possible this is not the correct John Clayton mentioned in Roger's immigration record as the occupation for John was listed as 'stonemason' not 'shoe maker' or 'cord wainer'; furthermore, this John and Jane lived in Thirsk, Yorkshire. However, no alternate marriages between a John and Jane have been found in the Rochester region thus far. Gormly-107 00:39, 25 May 2017 (EDT)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
I agree with Gormly-107 check Rochdale for 1811, John Clayton married Jenny Clegg could also be a fit for the parents of Roger Clayton. Jane and Jenny are interchangeable. To be a stonemason is a highly skilled job and not likely to change it to become a shoemaker, unless he was injured and could not work as a stonemason anymore.
