Lambert Clayton was born in 1755 in Kent Delaware, he was the son of George Clayton and Sarah Lambert Dodson. He served during the American Revolution attaining the Rank of Colonel. He married Sarah Davidson in 1782, They had nine known children.
Lambert Clayton was also a preacher and one of the founders of the French Broad Baptist Association. This organisation was responsible for establishing churches in the less settled areas of Old Buncombe County.
