Biography

Harris Gilliam Clayton was born about 1861 in North Carolina to James Clayton and Martha Clayton.[1]

In 1880 at age 18, he was living with his parents, James (61) and Martha (45), and three siblings:[2]

  1. Charlie (age 20)
  2. Nancy A (age 15)
  3. Brantley (age 13)

On 15 Dec 1887 at Nelson Claton's in Albemarle township, Stanly County, North Carolina, he married Lavinia Freeman, 17 year old daughter of Charlotte Claton and H. A. Kendall.[1]

In 1908 and 1912 when their sons James Otto Clayton and George Clayton were married, the couple was living in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. [3] [4]

By 1924, when their son Ernest C. Clayton married, the couple was living in New London, Stanly County, North Carolina.[5]

Gilliam died on 21 July 1933 in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina and was buried at Prospect Baptist Cemetery, Albemarle, North Carolina on 23 Jul 1933.[6]
