Biography

When James William Clayton enlisted in the Australian Army, he said he was born 5th May, 1920, at Bendigo, Victoria. He was son of James Clayton and Isabella Watson. [1]

Military Service. James gave his father, James William Clayton of McIvor Road, Bendigo, as his next-of-kin. James was single, of the Church of England faith, and worked as a driver. On his attestation, he owned up to eight months of Reformatory Prison. (1938 newspaper reports show he was 17 at the time of his attempting a serious criminal offence.)[2]
