Biography

Ernest Clayton was born on 22 October 1881, presumably in the United Kingdom.

He married Alice Galbraith in 1913 at Marylebone, London. They had children:

1. Sydney Ernest Clayton, 1913 (Darlington, Durham, England) - 1944 (New Guinea)
2. James Leslie Clayton 1917 (New Zealand) - 2017 (Hawke's Bay, New Zealand)

Between 1913 and 1917 they emigrated to New Zealand, where Ernest was a market gardener.

Alice passed away in 1945.

Around 1946, he married Olive Annie Ingley, née Booker. They owned a house at 35 Dublin Street, Wanganui. Olive passed away in January 1972.

As of january 1972, he resided at Wanganui, but he moved to Havelock North soon afterwards.

He died on 22 May 1972 at Havelock North, aged about 90. He was buried with his late first wife Alice in Taradale Cemetery, in a grave also commemorating their son S. E. Clayton.
