He was the son of Unknown Clayton probably born around 1630 in Cheshire, England, although it’s possible his birth was as late as 1660 given the birth of his only daughter in 1686.
His wife’s name was Martha and they had a daughter, both of whom were mentioned in his Will. Their daughter is likely the Elizabeth Clayton christened on 31 Aug 1686 in Disley with parents named John & Martha.[1] His daughter is not of age when he died in 1703, and his Will made provision to transfer her half of his residual estate to two of his nephews in the event that his daughter did not survive until her 21st birthday. The other half was left to his wife.
He passed away in 1703 and was buried in Disley, Cheshire, England.[2]
His wife Martha was mentioned in his brother Ralph’s Will of 1711 when Ralph left her the house & garden at Hag Bank in Disley.[3]
