He is 7 years old on the 1880 Census living with his parents.[1][2] He is listed on the 1900 Census living in Ward 3 of Danville, Virginia at 1256 Paxton Street in a house with his young family. His occupation is "Conductor (St Car)" which may refer to a 'Street Car Conductor'.[3][4] He began working as an Electrician at the City Power House in 1908 and in 1910 he is living in Ward 1 on Jefferson Street. His occupation is "Electrician" in the (power) "house" industry as a "Wage Earner"
[5][6] His address on the WWI Draft Registration is 243 Patton Street. John is described as "Stout" and "Tall" with "Dark" hair and "Blue" eyes.[7] On the 1920 Census, he still living in his "Own Mortgaged Home" in Ward 1 but now at 690 Berryman Avenue, and his occupation is ''(Electrical)'' "Switch Board Operator" in the "City Plant" Industry as a "Wage" worker.
[8][9] He is living in Ward 4 at 343 First Street which he owns and has a "Radio Set" on the 1930 Census. He puts down that he was 24 years old at his 1st Marriage and his occupation is "Electrical Operator" in the "City" industry as a "Wage" worker.
[10][11] On the 1950 Census he is living at 927 Green St., still in Danville, Virginia, not working, and not a Veteran of WWI nor WWII.

He deceased on 12 Sep 1960 at 87 years of age.[18] as recorded on his Death Certificate.
