Narrative: The death of Milford Clement occurred in Sawtelle hospital, Sawtelle, California, 9 October, where he had been for treatment for a few days past. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Chandler Clement of Washington, D.C. and one brother, Sergeant Mark Clement now in Honolulu.... He entered the U.S. Aerial Service in 1917. It was during the service that symptoms of diabetes from which he died appeared, which, if hereditary, was aggravated by the hardships endured during the war. On his return from service he spent some time in Honduras, after which he made his home for a while with his mother at Cincinnati, Ohio....

Two years ago he moved to San Gabbriel, California making his home with his mother's sister, Mrs. Leland Whitney, formerly of East Corinth. It was of little avail trying western climate for the disease had made such inroads upon his constitution that recovery was impossible (Undated newspaper clipping in the custody of Adrian A. West).

Milford enlisted in the Army on 20 April 1917 at Fort Ethan Allen, Vermont. By 10 October 1917 he had been advanced to Sergeant. He served with the 25th Aero Squadron and was honorably discharged on demobilization 18 June 1919 (Roster of Maine in World War 1917-1919 [Augusta, Maine : The Adjutant General, 1929] (Denver Public Library G949.3741. M284ro)). [4]
