  • In the name of God, Amen. The Seventeenth day of June on thousand seven hundred and sixty four, I William Clement of the parish of Raleigh in the County of Amelia being of perfect health thanks to the Almighty God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, that is to say, first I give & recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gives it and my body do I recommend to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my children, not doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty power of God, and as touching my worldly estate herewith it hath pleased the Almighty God to help me dipose the same in the following manner and for: To wit:
  • Item: I give to my son Isham Clement to negroes to wit: Ned and old Phillis and the land I formerly lived at containing 275 Acres and all my "Smith" tools and my part of the mill with ten acres of land joining the mill house and by the negroes work, working the negroes as they stand, not interrupting my wife of her house wench nor her affairs.
  • Item: I give to my daughter Mary Clement one negro, to wit Jean, the young sorrel mare and side saddle and bridle and the bed in the little room and all the furniture belonging to her.
  • Item: I give to Martha Clement one negroe to wit: Carter, and the best bed upstairs with all the furniture belonging thereto and the Roan horse.
  • Item: I give to my son William Clement to negroes to wit: James and Hannah and the land I had of George Evans containing 150 acres and the bed by the chimney up stairs which he lies on and all the furniture belonging thereto and the horse colt and my saddle and bridle and six head of cattle and my gun.
  • I give to my daughter Rebekah Clement on negroe to wit: Young PHILLISANDA, a good be, or ten pounds cash.
  • Item: I give to my son Edmund Walker Clement two negros to wit: Sam & Ben.
  • Item: I give to my son John Clement to negros to wit: Lucy and youn Caesar.
  • Item: I give to my daughter Ann Clement one Negroe to wit: Sarah.
  • Item: I lend to my loving wife Ann Clement three negroes to wit: Daniel and Old Caesar and Temp and the land and Plantation where I now live with all the rest of my estate not mentioned, all which which I lend to her during her natural or widowhood, and after death or marriage my will and desire is that the part of the estate which I lent to my loving wife may be equally divided between my four children, Rebeckah, Edmund, John, and Ann, except my land that I give to sons Edmund and John, the land where I now live and the other part of this legacy to be divided between the four mentioned, and I do appoint my loving wife Ann Clement executrix for Edmund Walker Clement and John Clement and for Ann Clement and William and Rebeckah of this last Will and Testament.
