Biography

Ezekiel/Ezekall Clemens (son of Abraham Clemens and Hannah Gove) was born February 01, 1695/96 in Salisbury, Essex County, MASS, and died February 01, 1778 in Rockbridge Co., VA. He married Christina Castell/Castwell) on 1725 in New Jersey, daughter of unknown Castel.

Moved to Pennsylvania 1701, to New Jersey about 1725, likely to Virginia in 1765, where he died about 1778.

Ezekiel's great-grandfather was Robert Clements, a founder of Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1642. Robert's great-grandfather died in Crofts, Leicestershire, England in 1571. A number of interesting events are related to Ezekiel: his father as a child was captured by Spaniards on a trip to England; his mother's father was imprisoned in the tower of London in 1687; his great aunt was imprisoned for witchcraft in Salem, Massachussetts; his second cousin's son was First Earl of Leitrim in Ireland; his father's Fawne inheretance was lost in the 1666 London fire.

About 1741 Ezekiel Clements bought land (375 acres) in what is now Rockbridge Co, Va. The deed was issued Jun 18-1746 (Augusta Co DB I, 131) by the heirs of Benjamin Borden, originally of New Jersey. Borden had been granted 92,000 acres on Nov 8-1739. It was patented Mar 24-1740. Borden died in Frederick Co, Md in 1743. His will, written 1742, gave authority for the 1746 deed, given to satisfy an oral agreement made earlier. Zeruiah Borden (widow) of Frederick Co and Benjamin Borden (son) sold 400 acres (375 when surveyed) in Orange (now Augusta) County to Ezekiel Clements for 5 shillings.

Ezekiel Clements and family, including the oldest son, Abraham and his family, moved to the farm about 1743. Things did not work out well for they left Virginia and likely returned to New Jersey in 1748.

Settled in Tennessee

Clements-1175 and Clements-218 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth location and death year/location. See research note on Clements-218 for more details.

If you agree that these are duplicates, please complete the merge.

Thank you!

Clements-673 and Clements-218 are not ready to be merged because: It's quite likely these are the same person but there's little evidence to go on,both were created through gedcom imposts and some of the details match but the DOD is off by a lot,one of them would have been 140 years old.

Clements-673 and Clements-218 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same birth year, same place of death. Yes, the birth locations are different, and there's a 90-year discrepancy in the date of death, but I am very sure he didn't live to the age of 150 years, and I think the obviously erroneous date of death is just one of the multiple errors on the orphaned Clements-218 profile. I believe the Clements-218 profile was created to represent the same person as Clements-673. Please merge to eliminate the orphaned duplicate.

Hi, I'm trying to find a connection to the Clements. By this document: https://fashionableintelligence.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/the-assassination-of-thomas-parr-resident-of-bencoolen.pdf

Witchcraft is mentioned in the first reference.

David Clements is an ancestor of mine, and I'm trying to connect him to the Mark Twain line.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
