Biography

Jean Clements was born about 1746 in Amelia County, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Clements and Frances Booker. On the 12th of December 1763 in the same County, Jean married Edward Tabb. Together they had these children:

  • 3. Lockey Tabb
  • 4. Edward Mallory Tabb, Jr. II
  • 5. Edmund Tab
  • 6. Davis Tab

Jean (Clements) Tabb passed away after 1805 in possibly Burke County, Georgia.

The Will of John Clements, Father of Jean

1791 - WILL OF JOHN CLEMENTS, VA. Will Book 4, Amelia County, VA - pages 203-204 -205, Recorded: 24 June 1791

  • In the name of God Amen I John Clements of the County of Amelia being in health and sound memory do make this my last Will and Testament first I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in such Christian like way my Executor hereafter named may think proper and as to what wordly goods it has pleased God to bless me with I will and dispose of as follows
  • Item I give unto Thomas Perkins Overton my Grounds hereafter mentioned for the use and support of my Nephew John Eaton Booker during his natural life three Negroes to Witt Simon Betty Mary with all their Increase If the said John E. Booker should hereafter marry and have any lawful Issue it is my will and desire at his death that the above named negroes and their increase be equally divided among such Issue ___ the widow if any one third part above named Negroes and their Increase and in case the said John E. Booker should marry and have no lawful Issue then in ___unto the widow the above named Negros with their Increase during her natural life or Widowhood Item and if he above named John E. Booker should die without lawful Issue then and in that case I give the aforementioned Negroes ___ Simon Betty and Mary and all their Increase to Edw'd Jenkins son of James Jenkins to him and his legal representatives for ever Item I likewise give unto my nephew John E. Booker the tract of Land whereon I now live with all its appurtenances to hold and firmly enjoy I likewise give the same John E. Booker one feather bed and furniture for his only use and Disposall for ever Item I hand unto Tho's Perkins Overton my __ hereafter for the only use and Support of Rebecca Jenkins Wife to James Jenkins during her natural life two Negroes to wit Phebe and Sam with all their Increase and at her death my Will and desire is that she the said Rebecca Jenkins may and shall dispose of the aforementioned Negroes with all their Increase by __ or otherwise as she thinks fitt
  • Item I give to Edward Booker one negro women named Pallow to him and his only use and disposal forever
  • Item I give to Nancy Jenkins daughter of James Jenkins and Rebecca his wife one negroe girl Child named Jean with all her Increase to his and her heirs
  • Item I hand unto Isabel Scott one negroe girl named Mildred with all her Increase during her life and after death I give the said Mildred with all her Increase to Rebecca Jenkins wife of James Jenkins to her only use and disposal for ever but in case the said Rebecca should die before the said Isabel then in that case it is my will and desire that she the said Rebecca shall and may have the sole and sole right to will or dispose of the said negroe Mildred with all her Increase after the death of the said Isabell as she thinks proper
  • Item I give to my niece Rebecca Davis Jenkins daughter of James Jenkins and Rebecca his wife two negroes to wit Fanny and Joe with all their Increase to her and the heirs of her body lawfully begotten and in case she dies without such Issue to her own use and disposal for Ever.
  • Item give unto my Grandson John Langhorn Tabb to wit Lucy and ___ with all their Increase to him and her only use and disposal for ever Item I likewise give to Thomas Perkins Overton my Executor one negroe girl named Phillis to him and his heirs for ever
  • Item I likewise give and bequeath to my granddaughter Frances Booker Hatcher one negroe Woman named Nell to her and her heirs
  • Item I likewise lend unto my Daughter Jean Tabb for her only use and support during her natural life time all the residue of my Estate both real and personal not otherwise Disposed off at my Death and to be equally divided by my Executor between all her children hereafter named to wit Thomas Tabb William Tabb Lockey Tabb, Edward Malory Tabb Edmund Tabb & Davis Tabb and if she the said Jean Tabb should hereafter bear other children my wish is that him her or them should have an equal division with those before named and Legally I constitute and appoint Thomas Perkins Overton my hole and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament without getting Gratuity for his Executorship Revoking and making void all former Wills by me made as Witness my hand and Seal this Eighteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninty

  • At a Court held for Amelia County 24 June 1791 the last Will and testament John Clements dec'd was Exhibited in the Court for proof ___ was contested by Edwd Tabb one of the devisees named in the said will where upon the Court proceeded in the ___ of Lherad Walton and ___ Jenkins two of the subscribing witnesses thereby deposes as follows first the said Walton deposes and said that he was present at the time when the testator signed the said Will and that he knew him to sign the same which he did in presence of the said Testator and that this said testator acknowledged the same to be his last will and testament.
