Biography

Salina Ann Minerva Clemmants (or Clements) married Moses J. Mays on 19 Mar 1844, in Harris, Georgia, United States. She was 18 at the time and would be 19 in May. [1]

The only thing that we know about her parents is their birth locations. This information is from the 1850 census she states that they were both born in Georgia. We can only guess that it would be in the early 1800's. Sadly, Salina Ann Minerva dies 21 Aug 1858 at the age of 33. At the time of her death she left five motherless children for her husband to care for by himself. No headstone can be found for her in FindAGrave.com at this time. It is assumed that she died in Macon, Muscogee, Georgia, United States but without a headstone or certificate of death it is uncertain.

Her husband, Moses sees that he needs to remarry shortly so within a year he marries again. A widow with her own four children, Lucy Miller Baugh. She is the mother of William Baugh, Rufus Baugh, Cora E. Baugh and Arthur. Lucy Baugh marries Moses Mays on 2 Nov 1859 presumably in Georgia. This wife must not have lived very long or the marriage ended in divorce. Moses remarries Mary E. Bradley in married 19 Dec 1865.

1850 Census

Salina is also found in the 1850 census with her husband, Moses, and three year old John and a new baby, Wiley L. Mays, who is 8 months old on the date of the census. [2] She is listed as being 27 and her husband is age 30. Her birth year is estimated as 1823 rather than 1825. Her husband lists the value of the paid real estate, the farm, as being worth $2000. Perhaps $2,000 in 1850 has a purchasing power to about $72,089.23 today.

Children

Salina is the mother of John Jepher Mays (29 January 1847) , Wiley Longstreet Mays ( 4 March 1850), Mary Ann Minerva Mays (20 September 1851), Moses Jones Mays Jr (26 November 1852) and William Oliver Olynthus Mays (1854).

I have found the grave of one son, Moses Jones Mays Jr. born 26 Nov 1852, Muscogee County, Georgia, USA. He died 25 Mar 1926 (aged 73) Wharton County, Texas, USA.
