Research notes

On occasion, Freda wrote letters to the editor of The Argus, which give us some insights on some of her opinions:

  • suggesting Victoria's new railway stations be given Aboriginal names[14]
  • urging for consideration of humane slaughter of animals before progressing a project to enlarge the Melbourne city abattoirs[15]
  • suggesting telegram boys bearing casualty telegrams wear khaki, to avoid unnecessary shock on receiving ordinary telegrams[16]
  • questioning a statement on Australian butter exports that had been published in the London Sunday Express[17]
  • again suggesting all future Victorian railway stations be given Aboriginal names[18]
  • suggesting that Flinders Street Station subways be hosed down each night and sprayed at daytime with disinfectant[19]
