John Clerke was born in 1803. John Clerke grew up in Kinsale, Ireland. He attended college in Dublin before immigrating to New Brunswick where his brother Robert Clerke lived. Married Phebe Shaw then moved down the St. Lawrence River to settle near Toronto. He continued his college education becoming an attorney. He named the town of Kinsale for his childhood home in Ireland. John Clerke passed away in 1862.
