Richard was born in 1910. He is the son of Thomas Clerke and Ella Best.

November 1941 Lieutenant Richard Martyn Clerke (Australian Imperial Forces) married Valma Lorraine Armstrong, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Armstrong, "Hadleigh," Victoria Parade, Devonport at St. John's Presbyterian'Church, Hobart[1]

He was killed in New Guinea, 12 October 1943[2] Buried in the Lae War Cemetery[3]

His will is dated 1944[4]
