Son of George Fredrick and Gussie Levena Clerke, of Rewa, Wellington, New Zealand.[1]

Buried in El Alamein War Cemetery I. G. 17., Egypt. Service number: 35797 Rank: Private Regiment: New Zealand Infantry[2]

An auction of his war medals" "1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence and War Medals; New Zealand Service Medal, all unnamed; New Zealand Memorial Cross, G.VI.R. (357 Pte. C. C. Clerke) " gives further details "Private Claude Cecil Clerke, New Zealand Infantry, attached H.Q. 4th N.Z. Infantry Brigade, was killed in action in the Western Desert on 5 July 1942, aged 32 years. He was buried in the El Alamein War Cemetery. He was the son of George Frederick and Gussie Levena Clerke of Rewa, Wellington."[3]
