His first marriage was to Eliza Mackenzie, 20 Feb 1862 in Inverness, Scotland  She appears on birth records simply as Eliza, However another record says they married 21 December 1861 in "Richmond, by the Rev. C. T. Perks, Thomas Ford
Clerke, Esq., of the General Post-office, to Eliza,
daughter of Eneas Mackenzie, Esq., Chief Secretary's
Office." In both cases her father was stated to be Eneas Mackenzie, Esq. She died 29 July 1877 after the birth of George.
His second marriage, 4 January 1897 at St. Jude's Church, Carlton was to Elizabeth Annie Bland, daughter of John Bland, Esq., late of Gippsland
He served for forty years in the postal service including time as the Inspector of the Dead Letter Office. He died of influenza
