As a medical practitioner he occupied a prominent place in his profession in Cleveland for many years. His medical education was received in, and he was graduated from the Medical Department of Columbia College, New York, N.Y., and the Cleveland Medical College. In 1848 he began the practice of his profession, continuing until his death. On the breaking out of the war, Dr. Cleveland at once offered his services, and was Asst. Surgeon in the 17th Ohio V.I., a 3-months regiment. At the expiration of this term he became Surgeon of the 41st Ohio V.I. (Col. Hazen), serving usefully until the close of the war. From 1871 to 1873, Dr. Cleveland was Professor of Materia Medica at the Medical Dept. of the University of Wooster, whose class, at a meeting held for that purpose, adopted resolutions in memorium, which were published. He was physician to the St. Andrews Society, and a very active member of the Board of Health. His decease was the result of a complication of difficulties that finally reached the heart.
