Biography

Obituary of John D.

In Memory of John D. Cleveland. In the Pope Circuit court, November term 1896. John D. Cleveland died at this home in Atkins, Arkansas, on the ____ day of August, 1896. He was admitted to the bar at Russellville in 1888, and immediately entered into practice in Atkins forming a partnership with J. J. Lester, which lasted until just before his death. His professional labors were performed in the courts of the Fourth Judicial district, and though his career as a lawyer was short, yet he had great promise. His mind was rather that of the judge than the advocate, steady to weight all facts, and more inclined to retirement and study than to an active practice and pleading before the jury. I will post rest of obit at a later time.
