He was appointed as an Indian Agent in Casa Grande in 1897. He was married to Emma Foster in 1878. Emma died in Casa Grande, Arizona in 1944.

His place of birth is documented as Noble County, Ohio in his obituary, however other family history indicates he was born in Monroe County, Ohio.
