Early Life

Abbie Sommers Cleveland was born to Elijah Cleveland and Beulah Davis Allen on 28 Jan 1847 in Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts, United States.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6]}

Family

On Aug 17, 1869, Abbie married James F Luce in, Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts.^{[7][8][9][10]}

They had the following children:

1. Amelia Luce. (1870-1870)^{[11][12][13][14][15][16]} The genealogy of the Cleveland family (noted in the see also section) indicates that her middle name was Frances and that she died on 12 Aug 1870 though no records with these facts have been found.

• 1850 Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 3 at the home of her parents on September 21.

• 1855 Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 8 at the home of her parents on June 1.^[18]

• 1860 Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 13 at the home of her parents on July 3.^[19]

• 1870 Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 23 along with her husband James (age 27) and unnamed daughter (age 1 month, born May 1870 though records show that she was born on Jun 1) on June 15. James was listed as a fisherman and the value of their home was 500. Since they were married less than one year, their marriage month was listed as August.^[20]

• 1880 Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 33 along with her husband James (age 37) who was listed as a fisherman on Jun 5.^[21]

• 1900 West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of in West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts. (citation needed - Family Search currently having issues with links for 1900 census).

• 1910 West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated on May 9, at the age of 33 on Lambert's Cove Road in West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts, United States along with her husband James Luce (age 67). They were listed as being married for 40 years. While they did have one child as indicated by birth records, she was listed as being a mother to no children with none living.^[22]

• 1920 West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 71 (though she was actually 73) on January 15. She was a widow and living alone in a mortgage free home on Lambert's Cove Road.^[23]

• 1930 West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts - She was enumerated at the age of 83 in a home that she owned worth $3000 on April 3. She was listed as having a radio set. She was widowed but indicated that she was married at the age of 31. She had no employment.^[24]

Death

Abbie Sommers Cleveland Luce died in 1938. She is buried at the Lambert's Cove Cemetery in West Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts.^[25]

Research Notes

• Her children: The first Amelia Luce was born 1 Jun 1870. She died when she was 2 months and 24 days old. The second Amelia Luce was born 6 Apr 1875. She was not listed in the 1890 census when she would have been 15 years old so further research needs to be done to find out if she also passed away or if there was some kind of record for the first Abbie that was transcribed with the incorrect date and they were actually the same person.
