Roland Cliff was born in Sculcoates, Hull in 1923. He was the son of James Cliffe, an engine fitter, and his wife Frances Andrews. [1]

As a soldier in the Second World War Roland was Killed in Action in Battipaglia, Italy on July 24th 1944. He was buried at the Cassino War Cemetery in Frosinone, Italy. [2][3]
