Biography

Jane, or Jone Clifford was born about 1511, the daughter of William Clifford and Elizabeth (Vaux) Clifford.

From Kit Weathers:

"The name of (Anthony Hidden's) mother is not known, but there is reason to believe that she was [Ellen or Jane], daughter of Elizabeth CLIFFORD and the sister to Henry CLIFFORD of Boscombe, M.P."

It is not known when Jane / Jone Clifford married John Clydesdale alias Hidden, though their son Anthony Hidden remained close to the Cliffords, having been brought up in the Clifford household from the age of 12.

Further evidence of this relationship can be found in the will of Jane's mother Elizabeth (Vaux) Clifford, which states that:

"Item I will that the money my son John Clydisdall owth me to mek a part of payment of the debts which I ought my son in law Palmer."
