Biography

Lovie was born May 1859 in Peoria, Illinois.

In 1860 she was living in Hallock, Peoria, Illinois.[1] The household included Samuel Clifton age 38 born in Ohio, Anna Clifton age 35 born in Ohio, Simentha Clifton age 15 born in Illinois, Henry Clifton age 13 born in Illinois, Lydia Clifton age 12 born in Illinois, John Clifton age 11 born in Illinois, Lovet Clifton age 1 born in Illinois and George Roberts age 20 born in Ohio. Samuel was a trader. George was a farm hand. Simon and Currance Reed lived next door.

In 1880 she was living in Hallock, Peoria, Illinois.[2] The household included Samuel Clifton age 58 born in Ohio, wife Anna Clifton age 56 born in Ohio, son Henry H Clifton age 34 born in Illinois, daughter Lovett M Clifton age 21 born in Illinois, son Elias J Clifton age 14 born in Illinois and son Leroy C Clifton age 10 born in Illinois. Samuel was a farmer. Henry was a farmer. Harrison Reed, Lyman Reed and Marion Reed lived nearby.

In 1885 she was living in Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa.[3] The household included Anna Clifton age 61 born in Ohio, Henry Clifton age 43 born in Illinois, Louie Clifton age 26 born in Illinois, Elias Clifton age 18 born in Illinois, Leroy Clifton age 16 born in Illinois and Harriett Johnson age 65 born in Ohio. Anna was a widow. Henry was a teamster. Elias was a fireman. Harriet was also widowed and was likely Anna's sister born 19 Nov 1820.

L M Clifton and D E Davis were married 9 Nov 1890 in Mahaska, Iowa.[4][5] He was the son of Henry Davis and Esther. He was born in Wales and was a bookkeeper. She was the daughter of Samuel Clifton and Anna Reed. It was his second marriage and her first marriage.

In 1900 she was living in Des Moines Township, Precinct 4 Des Moines city Ward 1, Polk, Iowa.[6] The household included Daniel D Davis age 52 born in Wales, wife Lovie M Davis age 41 born in Illinois and son Fay C Davis age 7 born in Iowa. Daniel was a coal miner. Daniel immigrated to the United States in 1849. Lovie was the mother of 2 children, 1 living.

In 1910 she was living in Des Moines Ward 1, Polk, Iowa.[7] The household included Daniel E Davis age 61 born in Wales, wife Lovie M Davis age 50 born in Illinois and son Fay C Davis age 16 born in Iowa. Daniel was a janitor at a public school. Lovie was the mother of 2 children, 1 living. Fay was a salesman at a drug store.

In 1920 she was living in Des Moines Ward 1, Polk, Iowa.[8] The household included Daniel E Davis age 71 born in Wales and wife Lovie Davis age 60 born in Illinois. Daniel was a janitor at a school house.

In 1925 she was living in Polk, Iowa.[9] The household included Fay C Davis age 31, wife Hazel Jane Davis age 27, daughter Jean Fay Davis age 1, mother Lovie M Davis age 65 and sister Lenore Jean Barron age 21. All were born in Iowa except Lovie born in Illinois. Fay was the son of Daniel Davis and Lovie Clifton. Hazel and Lenore were daughters of James Barron and Rose Weaver. Lovie was the daughter of Samuel Clifton, born in Ohio, and Anna Reed, born in Ohio. Samuel and Anna were married in Peoria County, Illinois.

In 1930 she was living in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.[10] The household included Fay C Davis age 36, wife Hazel J Davis age 32, daughter Jean F Davis age 6 and mother Lovie M Davis age 71. All were born in Iowa except Lovie born in Illinois. Fay was a bank auditor.

She died 21 Dec 1930 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.[11]

She is buried in Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.[12]
