Biography

Arthur was born in 1925. He was the son of Lytle Cline and Grace Burris. He passed away in 2011. Arthur Eugene "Gene" Cline, 86, of Danville, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 26, 1925, in Danville, he was the son of Lytle Edgar and Grace Roberta Burris Cline. He is a 1943 graduate of Danville High School and attended the University of Kentucky prior to entering the U.S. Army. During World War II, he was a PFC and served in France and Germany for 22 months and was awarded the Purple Heart. Gene was the superintendent of the mails for the U.S. Post Office for five years in Versailles and 25 years in Danville. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He loved to fish and play pool, fire and paint ceramics and was a UK fan.

Gene is survived by his wife, Doris Jaggers Cline of Danville; a daughter, Debbie Cline (Joe) Pope of Maryville, Tenn.; and two sons, Steve (Ruby Cole-Eaton) Cline and Scott Cline, both of Danville; two stepdaughters, Diane Rock of Hodgenville and Julie Craig (Monte) Hafley of Perryville; a stepson, Pete (Pam) Groves of Danville; a sister, Joan Livingston of Portsmouth, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Bill Smallwood of Danville; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lyle Thomas "Pos" Cline; a sister, Ethel Mae Smallwood; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Cline.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bellevue Cemetery. The Rev. Mark East will officiate.

Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Military rites will be provided by the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 18. [1]
