Biography
Anna, daughter of Michael Cline and Lillie Willits,[1] was born 13 January 1880 in Martinsburg, Clay Township, Knox County, Ohio.[2][3][1] Annie and her older sister Minnie May were particularly close, even after her sister married they continued to live together.
In 1880, her parents Michael (age 31, dry goods merchant) and Lillie A. Cline (23) resided in Eden Township, Licking County, Ohio with their daughters Annie S, (four months) and Minnie May (2) as well as Lillie's mother Mary Lathram (63).[4] After her father's death in 1897,[5] her mother Lillie A. Cline (age 43, dressmaker and widowed mother of three) rented a home on East Third Street in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio, for herself and her daughters Annie S. (20, factory worker) Minnie May (23, stitcher in suspender factory) and Edith Faye (18, paper box factory worker) in 1900.[2]
After her sister Minnie's marriage in 1904 until Anne's death, she lived in Newark, Licking County, Ohio. In 1910 Annie S. Cline (30, suspender factory worker) lived on Tenth Street in the home owned by David "Eugene" Stout (age 34, car inspector at the car barns) shared with her sister Minnie M. Stout (32) and their mother Lillie W. Cline (53, mother of three, two living).[6]
Anna and David changed jobs before 1920, but remained in the same household consisting of David E. Stout (age 44, stationary engineer in the rubber factory), Minnie M. Stout (42), Anna S. Cline (39, packer in a shoe factory) and Anna's mother Laura W. Cline (62).[7] When Minnie's husband David Eugene died in 1926,[8] Minnie became head of household. In 1930 the widowed homeowner Minnie Stout (age 52) shared her residence with her aging mother Lilly Cline (72), sister Anna Cline (50, inspector for Smith Shoe Manufacturing Company), and a lodger John W. Tilton (47, garage manager).[9]
Minnie remarried in 1941.[10] Although there is no evidence to prove it, it seems safe to assume that Anna remained with them.
Annie died 29 March 1966[3] in Granville Nursing Home in Licking County, where she had been for more than one year.[1] She was buried at Martinsburg Presbyterian Cemetery in Martinsburg.[1]
