Biography

Polly (Cline) Whitener lived in Appalachia, in North Carolina. See Appalachia Project.

Mary married Joseph Whitener on 27 Apr 1824 in Lincoln County, NC.[1] Joseph and Mary Whitener had the following children:

  1. Benjamin Marcus Whitener (1825 - 1864)
  2. Hosea Humphrey Whitener (1826 - 1902) married Sarah Ann Reese.
  3. John A Whitener (1828 - 1906)

The following child was raised by Joseph and Mary Whitener and not born to them, she could be of course Mary's child but given the Whitener surname. She is mentioned in Joseph's will written Feb 12, 1866 as the child we raised:

Mary (Cline) Whitener died 11 Dec 1874 in Catawba County, North Carolina.[4]
