Jacob "Rich Jake" Cline was born about 1790 in Montgomery County, Virginia, and died 1858 in Logan County, Virginia. He married Nancy Fuller (died abt. 1853) January 30, 1826 in Pike County, Kentucky. Some researchers have reported that Jacob had an older son, Allen Cline, by a prior, unknown wife. However, marriage and census records are consistent that William's oldest son was William Trigg Cline through his marriage with Nancy Fuller.
Jacob was a rather wealthy man and owned several thousand acres of land along the Tug. Jacob also owned slaves. See a transcription of Jacob's will (1858) on a page above. Controversy over the ownership of some land left by Jacob to his youngest son, Perry A. Cline, led to a grand escalation of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud between Perry Cline and Perry's next door neighbor, Devil Anse Hatfield, leader of the Hatfield Clan.
Children of Jacob Cline and Nancy Fuller are:
Jake also was a slave owner and his slaves were Moses, Charlotte and Harry. After his death they were left to his sons Jacob Jr and Perry according to his will. The slave helped raise the younger Cline children after their parents deaths.
His Grave is unmarked. The Old Cline Family graves were moved when the railroad came through Delorme in the late 1800's. The graves were relocated in the present day Delorme Cemetery near the church and railroad crossing.
