John, known originally as Johannes, was baptized 2 Feb 1696 in the Dutch Reformed Church of New York. He was the son of Albertus Clock of New York, captain of the sloop Elizabeth, and Tryntie Van der Heul, daughter of Abraham Janszen Van der Heul and Tryntje Hendricks Kip.
Tryntie [Van der Heul] ... married June 17, 1685, Albert Clock of New York, son of Abraham Clock and Tryntje Alberts .... Issue (Clock): Abraham ...; Marten ...; Johannes, bap. Feb. 2, 1696; Sara ...; Albartus ...; Pieternella ...; and Femmetje .... [p. 38 of History of the Kip Family in America] [1]
John married Deborah Scofield, daughter of Richard and Ruth (Brundage) Scofield, on 21 Mar 1724/5 in Stamford, Connecticut.
CLOCK, John, m. Deborah SCOFIELD, Mar. 21, 1725, by Samuell Peck, J.P.; Vol. 1; Page 4. [from Index p. 50 of the Barbour Collection] [2][3]
The names of the first daughter (Cathreen) and first son (Albert) are evidence that the man who settled in Stamford was the son of Albert and Tryntje. and had given his children the names of their paternal grandparents. (Trynjte and Cathreen both are variant forms of "Catherine.")
