Biography

" JAMES CLOYD, the oldest son of Ninian, and Mary (Kin- kaid) Cloyd was born in Augusta County, Va., 21 Feb 1762. He entered the Revolutionary Army when he was but fourteen years of age. He married Rachel Tilford on 7 Nov 1791. About 1790 his father, Ninian, and three sons, removed to Madison County, Kentucky, and about 1807, leaving his brother, John, in Madison County, he removed with his father and brother, Thomas, to Cumberland County, near Cloyd's Landing on the Cumberland River, where he died 26 March 1836. His wife was born in Madison County, Ky., 8 Sep 1774, and died in Cumberland County, 9 Nov 1835. He was a farmer, a Whig, and a Presbyterian." [1]
