Emma was residing at Upper Sturt in 1881, but by 1884 was living at Pyap.

Adelaide advertiser, Friday 6 January 1882, p3s, DAVIES- COAT.- On the 17th November, at the Registrar's office, Supreme Court, Adelaide, Edwin Davies to Emma Coat, both of Upper Sturt.

South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA : 1839 - 1900) Friday 6 January 1882 Page 3. DAVIES— COAT.— On the 17th November, at the Registrar's office, Supreme Court, Adelaide, Edwin Davies to Emma Coat, both of Upper Sturt.

From Pyap and Beyond.

Emma moved with her husband and 5 children up the Murray from Morgan SA, to the settlement at Pyap arriving in March 1894, she was 5 months pregnant at the time. Her daughter Adela had died in infancy from typhoid in 1893. It had been a long and stressful journey being hot with no shelter on board except for a tarpaulin for shade and no toilet.

The family experienced hard times and recalled being hungry at that time. Emma gave birth to her 7th child Olive Pearl four months after their arrival in Pyap. Emma became violently ill in October 1895 and died. It is believed that she had contracted typhoid before the family moved to Pyap.

Emma's sons were quite prosperous in the Renmark district and later called home a block near Olivewood and built a fine home called Garthowen.

It is understood Emma died of 'Strangulated hernia and peritonitis', on 13 October 1895 at Pyap.
