Biography

Henry I COATE.

Resided in 1841 and 1860 in Kingwood Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States.

Issues with profile

I am not sure if all the children attached to this profile are actually Henry's. According to the ancestrees.com site, only James, Little John and Marmaduke are. As noted on that site He should not be confused with a Henry purchasing land in this same time period in Virginia who bought 200 acres between 1756-1761.

I suspect the second son John attached to this profile is the one known as 'Big John'. Due to the extensive research and DNA evidence documented on the ancestrees site I plan to detach him from this profile. (Added by Veronica Williams 2014).

DNA

Henry Coate did not leave for the south until 1757. Have found record for Esther and Michael Newbold getting married in 1756. At this time both Henry and Esther are still in Burlington, New Jersey. This would appear to show that the three sons, John, James, and Marmaduke are sons of the marriage between Henry and Esther. (Unless there is another spouse thrown in there in the middle) :)

Regarding the post below about LIttle John and Marmaduke being born after their mother passed, I have Little John as being born in 1735, however records in my tree show Marmaduke being born in 1738. After Esther died. More research needs to be done.

Ignore last message posted here. (Should send an email) John in the will is "Little" John. A big duh moment. Sorry

My records only show two children, so far. Little John Coats and Marmaduke. I am not sure about the others on this profile.

Please note that children Thomas, Marmaduke and John Coate were born after the mother's death (db_error_310).
